Restoration & Conservation
The restoration and conservation of a stained glass window must always be carried out by skilled craftsmen with specialized knowledge. Thanks to the combination of art historian and glass artisan, you are in the right place at studio bxlart, where your stained glass windows are restored with respect for heritage and according to the rules of the art.
The stained glass to be restored is first analyzed on-site. Based on this analysis, a treatment proposal and a quote are established.
If necessary, the stained glass is removed and transferred to the workshop for thorough restoration.
Damages and deteriorations are carefully documented.
A rubbing of the lead network is made so that each piece of glass can be replaced in its original position.
Then, the stained glass is carefully cleaned. No product that could degrade the glass and lead is used during this process.
Broken pieces are replaced if necessary or glued if possible. Gaps are filled with an identical or very similar glass.
When the stained glass is severely damaged, or the lead is very weakened, partial or total re-leading may be necessary. The lead is replaced with new lead, then soldered together.
Finally, the stained glass is puttied, ensuring its waterproofing and reinforcing its strength.
All restorations are carried out while respecting as much as possible the international guidelines of the Corpus Vitrearum.

Restoration
Repurposing
You’ve come across a stained glass window somewhere, found a treasure in the attic or are attached emotionally to a stained glass window, but it doesn’t quite fit (anymore) with your current interior?
There are many possibilities that ensure that the stained glass window, whether in another form or not, is preserved.
For example, adjusting the size, dividing it into smaller parts, partially incorporating it into another stained glass window and then using it as a brise-vue or lightcathcer hanging in front of a window, or integrating it into one of the doors in the house. Your favorite part can also be isolated from the stained glass window to create a new little piece of art that stands alone.

Donate old glass
If you have old glass or stained glass windows in your basement, that you are never going to put back,.. Please never throw them away, but consider a donation to a local glass studio, like studio bxlart, as the production of glass asks a lot of resources of our beloved pacha mama. It would be a pitty to spoil all those resources.
